Rep says Winehouse was not adopting
Was Amy Winehouse in the process of adopting a child before her death? Not so, says her camp. There was a story making the rounds over the weekend that Winehouse was attempting to adopt a 10-year-old girl from the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. A rep for the late singer released a statement to CNN on Monday saying, "She was not in the process of legally adopting anyone." British tabloid The Sunday Mirror reported that Winehouse had started adoption proceedings for Dannika Augustine who they said lives in poverty with her single mother. The story quoted Augustine's grandmother, Marjorie Lambert, as saying the singer had retained lawyers to begin the adoption process and had begged to become her granddaughters guardian saying "I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her to England." “Amy was such a good person," said Lambert who reportedly met Winehouse at a beach bar she runs on the island. "She wanted to help everyone. I know she had her problems, but in St Lucia she was a much better person than people knew in the UK."
